Loren Jackson was elected Harris County District in November 2008 and became District Clerk on November 18, 2008. In his short time in office, Jackson has utilized novel and innovative technology to continue boosting operational efficiency, improve services and cut costs within the Office of the District Clerk resulting in significant taxpayer savings.
In keeping with his passion for public service, Jackson is actively involved in several professional, civic, and charitable activities throughout Harris County, and has been recognized for his contribution. In 2009, he was selected by the Houston Jaycees as a recipient of one of its 2009 Five Outstanding Young Houstonians Awards.
Loren serves on the Board of Directors for the Downtown Houston YMCA. He also has been a member of the Minority Opportunities in the Legal Profession and the Habitat for Humanity Committees with the Houston Bar Association. Additionally, Loren is an actor in the Houston Bar Association's annual "Night Court" production, which raises much-needed charitable funds.
As District Clerk, Jackson has jurisdiction over the summoning of prospective jurors for 74 courts and is responsible for custodial care and safekeeping of all court records for 59 District Courts and 15 County Criminal Courts located in Harris County. In addition, the Harris County District Clerk has the important responsibility of providing customer service to all child support cases (causes) heard in Harris County.
Jackson graduated with a B.A. in English from Texas A&M University and then received a J.D. from South Texas College of Law. Prior to serving as District Clerk, he worked as a litigation attorney for a firm in Houston where he focused on Commercial, Mass Tort, and Environmental Litigation.
Loren and his wife Laura reside in North Houston with their daughter Bella, and are active members of Houston's First Baptist Church.
