Lawyers Embrace Electronic Information Age
Lawyers' enthusiastic acceptance of electronic filing (e-Filing) has helped advance the office of Loren Jackson, Harris County District Clerk (HCDC) to new technological heights, delivering improved efficiency in court document processing and tax-payer savings beyond initial expectations.
Jackson closed out his first year in office Wednesday with additional e-Filing presentations to 200 attorneys and their staffs.
The e-Filing presentations will be held in the Harris County Civil Courthouse at 201 Caroline St., 17th Floor, in downtown Houston at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Because of the overwhelming response, e-Filing sessions have been filled to capacity well in advance of their actual dates.
"The response weve had to these seminars has been incredible," Jackson said. "E-Filing documents with the District Clerk's Office contributes to our overall goal of improving efficiency, which further reduces the cost to taxpayers."
By reducing the time and personnel required to process each court document and cutting costs of paper and printing, e-Filing has streamlined and exponentially increased the flow of information in Harris County courts, as well as for law firms across the county.
As a result of Jackson's efforts, on Sept. 18, 2009, the District Clerk's Office broke its previous e-Filing record by processing 679 e-filed cases in one day, surpassing its previous state record of 455 electronic cases filed in one day.
