Loren Jackson Earns Top Marks from Legal Community

District Clerk Kicks-Off Another Winning Season in HBA 2010 Judicial Poll

  • February 19, 2010 - (HOUSTON) Loren Jackson earned top ranking receiving the highest level of support from Houston’s legal community yesterday in the Houston Bar Association's 2010 Judicial Candidate Qualification Questionnaire.

Among the candidates in the race for Harris County District Clerk, Jackson was resoundingly noted as the preferred choice by 1056 attorneys who ranked him "Well Qualified," earning him the highest number of "Well Qualified" rankings among administration officials in Harris County. Jackson who was elected in November 2008 is seeking his first four-year full term as the District Clerk nominee of the Harris County Democratic Party.

While the Judicial Candidate Qualification Questionnaire is not an endorsement by the Houston Bar Association, it is nevertheless considered a good indication of where candidates currently stand within the legal community. "It is an honor to be given such a high ranking by our legal community," said Jackson, a former litigation attorney and graduate of South Texas College of Law. "As promised when I was elected, I’ve used innovative technology to improve efficiency, services and reduce operating costs resulting in taxpayer savings."

In his first year in office, Jackson made innovative changes to the District Clerk's Office resulting in taxpayer savings and apparently striking a homerun within the legal community who has given him kudos for the bevy of online services and features he added to the District Clerk's website. In December 2009, Jackson was noted as one of the Impact Players of the Year 2009 by Texas Lawyer magazine. He was also recognized by the Texas Bar Journal (Dec. 2009) for advocating and promoting e-Filing among the legal community and setting the record of 667 for most e-Filings in one day.

Jackson's notable showing in the HBA Poll, may have come as a surprise to those who expect a heated contested race for District Clerk later this year. All eyes will be on Jackson for the rest of the year as the 2010 Election season takes launch beginning with the March 2 Primary here in Harris County.

As District Clerk, Jackson has jurisdiction over the summoning of prospective jurors for 74 courts and is responsible for custodial care and safekeeping of all court records for 59 District Courts and 15 County Criminal Courts located in Harris County. In addition, the Harris County District Clerk has the important responsibility of providing customer service to all child support cases (causes) heard in Harris County.
